Alter Eco – Raspberry Truffle Thins
I am back once again with yet another Alter Eco truffle thin bar. I think at this point it’s safe to say that this will be very hard to not like. Even if the flavour is not to my liking, the texture and execution of the bar is, and because of that the worst case scenario is I dislike the flavour but like the texture. I’m hoping I like the flavour too, but scientifically speaking, this is essentially a no-lose scenario for Alter Eco. With that out of the way…

Just like the other bars this is a fairly flat, long rectangular bar. Truffle is something I tend to associate with spheres or cubes, or rectangles. Basically anything with a decent height and depth so that you can fill a chocolate with that soft filling. That’s not the case here where the bar is very flat, so the “filling” is more of a “layer”.

The dark chocolate is once again quite nice and smooth. The raspberry filling is equally smooth and melty, and the whole piece is soft and feels delicate. Similar to the other flavours I’ve had so far, it really delivers on the truffle experience. When you think of chocolate truffles you think of something rich and delicate, and also super unhealthy. These deliver on all of those except maybe because it’s in a thin square block, it doesn’t seem quite as unhealthy or decadent. Mark my word though, these will send you into an early grave if you aren’t careful.

The flavour of the raspberry has got a sweet, floral and slightly tart berry flavour to it that reminds me of a raspberry creme or fondant cookie. The difference here is that it isn’t just sweet and has some nice tart berry flavour to it to make you feel like you aren’t just consuming artificial raspberry sugar. The dark chocolate pairs really well with the raspberry, as it’s earthy, slightly bitter flavour contrasts with the bright raspberry to set a baseline that really lets the raspberry shine. It’s sort of like if you met a pair of friends and one is relatively reserved and quiet, the more outgoing and boisterous one just seems more punchy and noticeable by extension.
So where does this all leave us? Well this is one of the better one’s I’ve had. I’m sure I said that before about the other ones, but I can’t help it if I keep trying successively better bars. This one is a good flavour for people who enjoy fruity ones and like the contrast between a nice sweet tart berry flavour against a rich dark chocolate. I would certainly get this one again.
