Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP – White Cheddar Popcorn

I feel like any successful company these days, whatever market or demographic it tries to cater to will end up being bought up by one of the bigger brands at some point. Angie’s Artisan was a brand that was started by a modest couple in their garage making popcorn and trying to do the healthy living lifestyle. Fast forward to today and the brand has gotten so big that the folks at Orville decided to buy them out and scale the brand and it’s operations. Hearing stories like these are always inspiring and give the little guy hope. That they too will someday make it big and get bought up by a giant brand.

I sometimes worry though, that once a brand that started out with pure intentions and grass roots ends up slowly becoming more corporate and greedy, all for the sake of a dollar. Hopefully that slide down will be slow, and we can enjoy what is still considered the original vision of the founders.

What a familiar smell.

On a lighter note, who doesn’t love white cheddar popcorn? Any popcorn brand worth it’s weight in kernels will at some point have to try tackling this flavour, if for no other reason than obligation to the popcorn game. If you pop it, you must add cheddar sooner or later.

These smell like any other white cheddar popcorn. They also look like any other white cheddar popcorn. Well, there is a minor difference – these look like they have more powder on them. I don’t know if that’s actually the case or the powder itself is just less granular. It almost has a grated cheese look to it. It’s more clumpy and not granular enough that it could go up your nose if you accidentally fell face first into it and inhaled. Be careful and don’t actually do that though kids, stay safe out there.

Looks like cheese too!

The seasoning is undeniably white cheddar, but it’s slightly different from the more common Smartfood flavour that most people here in the Frigid North would think of when talking about white cheddar popcorn. For starters, the seasoning is less granular so it sort of clumps together a little in the mouth. I kind of like that since it reminds me this is a cheese after all. Also the flavour is a little more on the tangy side, which again, reminds me that it is a cheese so that’s good.

White cheddar and popcorn are a classic pairing and go hand in hand. Trust me when I say that Angie makes a mean white cheddar flavour, and would manage to please even the most discerning popcorn snobs among us. Which is totally not me because I may be an accidental hipster, but I ain’t no snob.

I should really try measuring that out one of these days…

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
