Beanitos – Hint of Lime White Bean Chips

Beans are pretty awesome, and while I don’t have them that often, I always think on them fondly. Except re-fried beans – something about that texture just doesn’t do it for me. Pretty much everything else is fair game though, whether it be soup, salad, stew, chili or dare I say, chips.

Visually you would have difficulty telling this apart from a normal corn based tortilla chip. Smell wise is a different ball game – there’s an unmistakably legume smell coming from these, so you would imagine it’s either bean based or something in the same family. It’s not a bad smell mind you, just a distinct one.

Texture is like a slightly less crispy, but equally crunchy corn chip and feels more dense and substantial. Unlike some corn chips that have a clean snap and dissolve away pretty quickly, these stick around for a while and it’s pretty clear that there’s some fiber or protein in them, as they have that noticeable quality to them. It works in this format though, unlike some other products that have lots of fiber or protein.

Smells like a margarita.

The flavour is strong. I know it says of hint of lime, but my first bite made me puckering a little from how strong and zesty that lime flavour is. It’s great if you like lime, but a heads up it’s quite a bit stronger than you would expect if you’re going into it with more common brands as the benchmark. These things have a strong kick of zest and I’m all for it. There’s a bit of sugar and salt to even out the lime flavour, but there is no mistake who the lead actor is here. Admittedly I’m not the biggest fan of lime, but it’s hard to deny they really delivered here and I have to give them credit for that. While I’m a bit of a crazy person and tend to eat my tortilla chips plain or as is without dips or salsa, I can see these going great with a nice queso or spicy salsa to really liven up the flavours.

You would never know any better.

All in all, not a bad flavour in the Beanitos line up, but not being a huge lime fan, I can’t say this is for me. If you enjoy citrus though, which many people do, this is a great flavour to give a try. If I ever feel like I need some zesty flavour in my life, you can be sure this flavour will be one of the first things that come to mind.

The most shocking ingredient to me is parsley.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
