Black Thunder – Rum Raisin Butter Sand

Few brands hit it out of the park as much as Black Thunder does, and as consistently. At this point they have reached the top of my favourite brands list, and it has me a little worried because it also means there’s not much room to go anywhere but down. But hopefully it won’t come to that. Or at least not yet.

These mini morsels are very uniformly square. Almost unsettling – they remind me a bit of chocolate covered ice cubes. Not that it’s an actual thing…right? There appears to be seven mini pieces in this pouch. If not for the unevenly round shape on the top I would be tempted to stack these on top of each other like Lego pieces.

The outer layer is standard milk chocolate, and the inside is a soft, borderline spongy cookie like texture. The raisins add a little chew, but I feel like their contribution is largely flavour. As with pretty much any other flavour of Black Thunder, these are just the right balance of cookie texture where it’s not too crumbly but also have enough of a light airy quality to it.

Does anyone else think of mini Klondike bars?

There is a bit of alcohol content to these – about 1.0%. They smell a bit boozy, and you can just sense the rum flavouring. Rum raisin is one of my favourite combos when it comes to booze flavours, and it pairs really well in chocolate bars. Most of the brands I’ve had taste similar, and they’re all pretty solid offerings. This is no exception with a good balance of the rum flavour with raisin sweetness and the somewhat mild cookie centre.

That classic cookie goodness.

While these do have some alcohol in them, it’s not too strong, and there’s also only 7 pieces so the odds that you get even buzzed off these is very unlikely. While it does enhance the flavour, it’s done tastefully so I appreciate the effort. That being said, maybe keep these away from kids or babies. Never know how even a drop of alcohol can wreck their tiny, squishy brains.

All in all these are what I would consider a mature or adult flavour due to the alcohol, but still an amazing flavour nonetheless. I would definitely want to get these again if it wasn’t for the difficulty in finding these. If these were a more common flavour, I would be getting this all the time.

A lot of calories in this here 7 pieces.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
