Bourbon – Mochi Truffe Strawberry Cocoa

As I get older I become more ingrained in certain habits and get accustomed to certain things. Try as I might, I can see myself becoming more and more resistant to trying new things and new experiences. Thankfully I love mochi and it is firmly cemented in my comfort zone, so this is a safe “try”, if you will. I like to think that some things are quite easy to screw up like mochi, but as a lifelong fan I’m also very tolerant and accepting of most forms, as bad as they may seem.

Bourbon has been cranking out chocolate mochis for a long time now, and most of the experimenting or variation they do is with the flavour of the chocolate within. I’ve had my fair share of flavours at this point, and none of them have disappointed me or left me with anything less than a desire for more.

Bet I could fit two in my mouth at once, like a chipmunk.

Each package comes with a total of 8 pieces, with it spit between two 4 piece trays. It even comes with a nice little wooden pick for stabbing others who try to get near your mochi. That and eating them without getting your hands too dirty.

Because of the cocoa dusting, these can be a bit messy to eat. Anyone who has had a chocolate truffle before is probably familiar with how the dust can get everywhere and get stuck on clothes. It’s really quite a hassle, but it’s worth it. Just make sure you wash your hands before you do anything else. These also smell really nice, like a solid dark chocolate liqueur.

Love the helpful stick.

These are quite rich in texture. From the dusting of cocoa on the outside, to the rich strawberry ganache in the centre, this is quite the experience. I’m a big fan of the other Bourbon mochi chocolates, and this is no exception. The texture is very chewy, and sticky as you imagine a fresh mochi would be. It still surprises me how they manage to keep the texture so soft and sticky after all this time. It’s a little concerning but let’s not get into that. The mochi itself encases a very soft, fruity ganache on the inside. The ganache is just the right balance between rich chocolate and creaminess.

These are quite rich in flavour as well. The cocoa dusting hits you hard at first, but it is just a light dusting, so there’s a rich, slightly bitter cocoa flavour but it has a clean finish to transition to the strawberry ganache on the inside. The two combine in a single bite to have the sweet floral strawberry flavour contrast against the slightly bitter cocoa.

That smooth, slightly gooey filling.

Much to the surprise of no one, I want more of these and I am sad I finished it all so quickly. I know it’s designed in a way that it can also be shared, but let’s be honest – if you put a tray of these in front of me, I’m not going to do anything short of inhale them. Definitely want to get more of these.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
