Cheeza Crackers – Peppered Double Cheese
While I’m sure they fit the definition of what a cracker constitutes, I tend to think of them more as something else. I can’t quite find a single word to describe it, but it’s along the lines of a baked snack that’s not quite a chip, but also not what I think of as a cracker. When I think of a cracker, the thoughts of dry wheat thins or saltines come to mind. Even Cheese Nibs remind me more of crackers than these. Maybe it’s because these aren’t as dry and that’s where my mind goes when the word cracker is uttered within my general earshot.
All this to say I don’t really view Cheeza as a cracker, despite it technically being one. Maybe it’s just a east vs. west mindset of what I think each region calls a cracker. I also tend to think of crackers as something you get in high volume so you can mindlessly eat away at.
Not helping the case is that these come in a very small pouch, and thus feel very premium for what they are. I imagine I’m not far off though, given that these are also priced quite expensively for the amount you get. I have had this brand before and I do appreciate that they go for quality over quantity, and I’m excited to see how these taste. Also not exactly relevant, but I love the shape of these. I like to slot them altogether and make a sort of cheese cracker pizza. It’s silly, I know..
These are very cheesy, and slightly peppery. The cheese is fairly mild in terms on the spectrum of cheese-pungency, and remind me of a cheddar, or a mozzarella. The light dusting of pepper helps to give it a bit of a complex flavour that doesn’t just comprise of dairy goodness. The overall flavour comes together to delivery a very pleasant, but distinct flavour combination that makes me want to try to replicate this with cheese string and a pepper mill.
The texture is a pretty light, airy cracker. It sort of reminds me of the Parmesan crisps that have come into vogue in the past few years or so. They are a little more melty and cracker like though, and less crunchy or crispy. They are closer to a Cheez-It cracker but with a lot less flour or filler to make it more like a dehydrated triangle of cheese.
Similar to the other Cheeza flavours I’ve tried in the past, I thoroughly enjoyed this and would get this again. I’d also love to simply try other flavours as well, I’m not too picky at this point. Cheeza has kept me impressed thus far.
