Doritos Late Night – Creamy Jalapeno Popper
Doritos already has jalapeno cheddar and it’s one of the standard, staple flavours. The only difference I can see these being is if they somehow emulate that fried flavour of a jalapeno popper, and if they somehow capture that flavour of spicy cream cheese. I say that but being someone who doesn’t have jalapeno poppers very often, I can’t say I’m an expert by any means. I’m mostly just trying this because I’m curious how it would compare to the standard flavour.
Upon opening the bag, the smell of…honestly these don’t have much of an aroma to them. I smell a bit of what I assume is pepper, and the slight hint of cheese of some sort. Predominantly though, it reminds me of fry oil, which makes sense given most jalapeno poppers are deep fried and breaded into oblivion.

The flavour is surprisingly bland. To the point where I wonder if the bag I got is stale or was “defective” somehow. I see visually all the powder and seasoning, but it mostly just tastes like a corn chip with heat. The spice level is definitely higher than the typical jalapeno cheddar flavour. It also has that distinct jalapeno flavour I usually liken to banana, without the sweetness. The supposedly creamy quality doesn’t really show through, and there is only a very slight, mild cream cheese type flavour. Again, very mild and barely noticeable. I don’t say this often, or lightly, but these are one of the few Doritos flavours that’s bland and subtle enough that you can pair it with dip or queso. Not something I usually buy Doritos for, but that is an option here.

The texture is no different from any other Doritos chip – it’s perfectly engineered to have that balance between crispy, airy, and crunchy. What those Doritos scientists have mastered is the art of making you addicted and never letting you stop after having a few. Despite not being a huge fan of the flavour, I find myself hard pressed to stop crunching em down one after another.
At the end of the day, these may not be my favourite but they are still a Dorito, which means if nothing else you get an addictive texture. I would unlikely get this again, and would probably go for something more flavourful or memorable. All this flavour does is make me wish I had a jalapeno cheddar bag nearby.
