Doritos Late Night – Fully Loaded Nachos
It feels both inevitable and a little meta, that Doritos would create a flavour based on nachos. When you think about the general concept of Doritos, it’s flavoured tortilla chips that are convenient and easy to eat, while capturing various flavours and tastes. It could be considered a more convenient, easier way to do what nachos try to do, which is to actually combine various ingredients to create an experience. Sure Doritos can’t do the same textually or make something filling, but they both aim to achieve something similar. In that sense it was inevitable that the two would cross paths and Doritos makes a flavour out of it. Deep down, we all knew this was coming.
I feel like the start of any plate of nachos is the same – you can taste everything and all the different flavours coming together and everything is still warm and crispy and clearly distinct. But the deeper you go things get messier, and everything starts to mix and meld into a singular, look and flavour. Keep in mind that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

I mention this because that’s what this flavour reminds me of. I can taste all the different parts that you would see in any plate of nachos – the most distinct flavour here is the the cheese, the sour cream and the ever so slight kick of jalapeno. I’m pretty sure my mind is playing on tricks on me, but I almost feel like I can taste the combination of lettuce, re-fried beans and sour cream at the same time. The other flavours like tomato, onion and salsa are also present.

The texture is no different from any other Doritos flavour – it’s got a nice balance between crispy and crunchy, and isn’t too thick or too thin. It’s thin enough that it feels like you aren’t eating anything and want more, but not thin enough you feel like you’re quite eating air. Those Doritos scientists really know how to push you to consume more. Imagine if they used that knowledge and power for something worthwhile. What a world we live in.
Overall this is a pretty good flavour and I wouldn’t mind getting this again if and when this returns a season or two later. This is definitely a hats off to those Doritos flavour scientists working on overtime to deliver another banger of an addictive, artificial, tasty flavour. All this to say, yes I would do it again, and yes I will feel disgusting and ashamed of myself, just like any other Doritos flavour.
