Green & Black’s – Organic Butterscotch

When I think of Green & Black, I still sometimes think about suits and shirts. There’s a brand known as Black & Brown, and the first time I saw the chocolate’s brand name, I wondered why they would sell chocolate while also selling suits. One of the many brain farts you have when you are an uncultured swine like I am. Even to this day, with my many more years of wisdom and experience, I still cannot decouple those two things. Thankfully we can always create new mental connections with positive experiences, with which I am hopeful today’s chocolate will provide.

It looks like their new packaging has a clearly indicated intensity scale for how strong the cacao is. It’s a cute touch, and it’s definitely one of those things where I would prefer a higher number, but being milk chocolate kind of comes with the territory of being lower on the scale. 37% is somewhat low, so I’m imagining that this will be on the sweeter side as well as more creamy and melty. While milk is not my preferred poison, it is still chocolate and of a decent quality so I acquiesce.

So many pieces awaiting to be revealed.

Sure enough, this is pretty sweet. Not in a figurative way either, it’s quite literally sweet. A bit sweeter than what I’m used to, though the butterscotch or caramel bits could also be contributing to that. I feel like this caters more to people who enjoy sweet chocolates, as it is quite noticeable in it’s sweetness. Have I said sweet enough times yet? The flavour profile apart from that is creamy, and strong dairy notes. The butterscotch is more of a texture play, as the flavour is a bit drowned out by the overall sweetness. Or I guess it’s part of it?

A nice, simple logo.

The texture is pretty soft milk chocolate complimented by some butterscotch or caramel bits strewn about in between. They aren’t big pieces, and it feel more like it’s milk chocolate with some butterscotch pieces thrown in as opposed to chocolate covered butterscotch. What you end up with is mostly a solid block of chocolate with specks here and there that add a little extra crunch, but not enough that it would dampen the experience if you wanted just straight up chocolate.

Fairly straight forward and sweet.

I’ll be honest and say I don’t think I’m the target audience. I mostly got this to say I’ve tried it, but out of all the other flavours that Green & Black’s has to offer, I don’t think I would get this one again. I appreciate the brand quite a bit but this is not one I would come back to, and I’d rather opt for one of their other better flavours that fit my palate more.

At least the ingredient label isn’t too long.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
