Hardbite – Avocado & Lime

Ah yes, Hardbite. No doubt by now it is abundantly clear that the brand is synonymous with quality and crunch in my books. They have quite quickly, yet consistently, managed to edge their way to the top of the mountain that is my cold, frigid heart. Thought suiting given where I hail from, it says a lot that this brand has become one of my go to ones when it comes to potato chips. It’s a cutthroat business, so it speaks volumes when one rises above the others.

Admittedly, I really only got this flavour based on a passing curiosity. I don’t tend to like lime as a flavour, but I figured it’s Hardbite – even if I don’t like the palate profile, I’m sure to at least enjoy the crunch. All of this to say that this was not a big leap or a huge risk for me, and it’s bound to at least be passable.

These things are tough, and crunchy. Just how I like my kettle chips (and women). Hardbite has always done a great job of delivering on the texture front, so I’ve never had anything but positive things to say. They have a variety of different flavours and styles of cooking, but they all end up pleasing my palate in a delightful way. One of the things I enjoy most about Hardbite, and this is purely preference I know, is how hard it is and substantial it feels to both crunch and consume these. Unlike the thin, airy texture of bigger brands like Lays, it’s harder to pack a whole bag of these away without feeling kind of sick. I attribute this to the combination of the thicker chip and the oil and fat these things have soaked up. Man do these things fill you up.

These things look identical to typical salted chips.

The flavour is a very pleasant tangy lime. The avocado bit is a bit harder to pin down, as for me at least, avocado is more about the texture than flavour. But if I close my eyes and think about it, this flavour does remind me a lot of a nice quality guac, so in that way I can see where avocado comes into play. It has a very delicate, smooth quality to its flavour, something I associate with avocados. Unlike the more common black pepper and lime flavour, these don’t have any kick to them, but they do deliver on the lime flavour. It’s not overpowering or artificial by any means, but it’s strong enough that it takes the front seat and leads you down the highway to zesty town. Even someone like me who doesn’t particular enjoy lime or lemon flavours with my chips, I really enjoy this one.

The overall delivery of the smooth, bright flavour of the chip really goes well with the texture. Highly recommend this to everyone. Heck, I might even go out and get myself another bag. I shouldn’t….but I’ll do it anyways.

Wait why are the other bags per 40g…

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
