Hardbite – Smokin’ BBQ

Some things stay with us longer than others. Flavours and preferences are a great example of this – grape flavour and purple are two things that have stayed with me since childhood. At some point I somewhat outgrew purple as a colour, but it has and likely always will have a special place in my heart and be something I gravitate towards. Some things we grow out of, which feels more natural. People change, people evolve, and so do their tastes. As a child I loved most BBQ flavoured things, and I was one of those kids that preferred dipping fries in BBQ sauce instead of ketchup. I still remember getting weird looks from the cashier when I asked for BBQ sauce at fast food joints. I even remember one lady saying it’s extra and they only give it with nuggets. I’ll always remember how jipped I felt, and how I refused to pay the 35 cents on principle.

Like most western style BBQ flavours, this is got that smoky, sweet and slightly tangy, slightly spicy combination of flavours going on. It’s not too different from other flavours you would expect, so the best thing I can say is these won’t disappoint even if they don’t wow. I will say that these aren’t nearly as salty as some other brands, so you won’t be dying for a water after. These also have a more smoky flavour than a sweet or salty one, so it’s a little more subtle but easier to stomach large quantities of. Not that I am saying you should ingest these in large quantities. All things in moderation right? As a wise man once told me as he took a puff from his cigarette, “Do as I say…not as I do”.

Looks like typical BBQ chips.

Texture is where Hardbite shines. True to it’s name, these have a hard texture and a nice crunch to them. To say that Hardbite as a brand is my favourite right now would be an understatement. Keeping in mind that I like a hard, heartier crunch when I consume chips, if you like to work your jaw out then these are for you. If you prefer something softer, Kettle might be a better bet for you. One thing I think anyone can agree on though, is these feel like quality.

They only look angry, they don’t taste angry.

While BBQ is no longer one of my preferred flavours, I don’t dislike it. I like to think it’s more of an indifference in that I can take it or leave it. But Hardbite chips as a texture experience are still top dog for me right now and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. If you like BBQ then these are an easy sell.

Feeling some canuck pride.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
