Kettle Brand – Yogurt & Green Onion Potato Chips

Kettle doesn’t always impress, but it never disappoints. It’s a good middle of the road brand when it comes to Kettle chips and has a good balance that gives it a broad appeal. They aren’t too specialized in either texture or flavour and aren’t afraid to experiment. But they don’t take things too far and create novelty flavours or things that aren’t meant to be enjoyed more than once.

The tangy smell of these is appetizing, as the waft brings back memories of sour cream and onion, a flavour I have grown up being very enamored with, despite knowing how unhealthy it is. The palette wants what the palette wants.

The flavour of these is a good balance between mild and natural. It’s not too flavourful or salty like big brands you may be used to, but they are also more natural and less seasoned. You can still taste the potato in these rather than just salt and onion. These also have a fairly clean finish, which is somewhat rare in my experience with sour cream and onion type flavours. They usually leave a very distinct flavour in my mouth for hours. I can taste it hours later if I hiccup or burp, but these are natural enough I don’t see that happening. Or so I hope…

These have just enough flavour to be tasty and appetizing, but not enough to be a scorched earth situation where nothing else can be tasted after. These would go great as a chip beside a sandwich or burger, in place of fries.

They look pretty mild and tame.

I’ve said it before – Kettle is a great middle ground for kettle cooked chips when it comes to texture. The Goldilocks, if you will – not too hard but not too soft. There’s something very satisfying about chewing into a nice kettle cooked chip and having it crunch and have that satisfying snap and crushing sensation as the potato releases its flavour. Even better when it’s not overly greasy and it has a fairly clean finish.

I think I have a harder time adjusting back to normal Kettle chips after indulging in the glory that is the Krinkle cut variety. These are still good but I want something thicker, heartier and crunchier. For all the normal people though, if you want something that’s not fluffy but also not jawbreakingly hard, these are great. Add on to a natural sour cream and onion style flavour that won’t leave your mouth feeling off after, these are a safe party snack choice.

Citric acid was a bit unexpected.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
