Lindt LINDOR – Double Chocolate Bar
I wouldn’t exactly consider Lindt a premium brand, at least not outside of it’s home country of Switzerland. It’s a well known fact at this point that the chocolate they make within the country is vastly different than what they export. Barring the ability to get the real stuff, this is what we will have to settle for.
This fancy bar comes in a foil wrap, which protects 12 pieces of chocolate in a nice cardboard package which I can only describe as envelope like. These LINDOR bars are really just a different format to the more popular and famous truffles. We’ve long known just how bad the truffles are for you, but they taste so good it’s really hard to stop or say no. Let’s see if that extends to these bars.
These pieces are different from the Excellence line because they are not only much thicker, but they are also much less square and more rectangular in nature. Opening the foil, I am overcome with a strong, distinct aroma that I can only associate to LINDOR truffles, specifically the iconic red wrapped milk chocolate.
If you’ve had the iconic Lindt LINDOR truffles, then you’ll have a good idea what these taste like. These are essentially a flattened out sphere where the chocolate on the outside is highly soft and easy to melt, and the inside is slightly softer than that and also equally melty. The whole thing comes together very similar to the truffle, with what I would consider to be less brittleness, and more just melty chocolate. Even in the cold climates of Canada, these manage to melt quickly the touch. Definitely something you want get into the mouth, and not on the clothes.
The flavour is pretty bang on from what they market it as – it’s their classic milk chocolate on the outside with their darker chocolate on the inside. The milk chocolate itself is pretty sweet, but combined with the slightly less sweet center and the melty texture it works out to be a pretty decadent and rich experience. While a bit sweeter than I would like, I do think it does what it set out to do pretty well, so I have to give credit where credit is due.
I will admit that something about this hits the right spot, and the richness reminds me of a tasty pastry like a cake or brownie. However, something about the way it tastes also reminds you of the mortality and fragility of human life, and I wonder if I should really be eating this much. All this to say, eat at your caution, as this is tasty but also quite damaging.
