Lotus Biscoff – Vanilla Cream Sandwich Cookie
Lotus is a Belgian brand that is known for popularizing what they called biscoff, which is short for biscuits with coffee. It also goes by the name of speculoos and is a distinct biscuit made from wheat flour, cinnamon and candy syrup. It’s been a staple cookie for a very long time, but I just never happened to get around to it. I’m pretty sure I’ve had it in random outings but either wasn’t paying attention or too tired to do so. So here we are.
This sleeve here has a total of 15 cookies. Opening it up, I am reminded of golden Oreos. Both in the smell and appearance somewhat. These obviously have a more caramel colour to them, but they really do remind me of graham crackers. The smell is best described as graham crackers and icing. I’m suddenly feeling a strong sense of longing for cheesecake.

The texture of the biscuit is rather crumbly, and seems like the type that would be nice dipped into a hot drink. Maybe a coffee? Who could ever imagine? On it’s own it’s got a pretty soft bite to it and has a sort of grainy, granulated quality to it as you chew. The vanilla creme in the center is quite soft and creamy as well. It reminds me of what I enjoyed about cream sandwich cookies as a kid, and something I thought was missing in the more common brands available these days.
It’s got a distinct caramelized sugar flavour, while also having that cinnamon to it that reminds me somewhat of a graham cracker. If you like cinnamon, you’ll enjoy this. If not, it’s basically just a sweet biscuit with vanilla cream inside. It’s generally inoffensive enough that I think most people would enjoy this. While the flavour is a common place one, it does it quite well and I’m impressed that a big, mass market brand manages to do a simple thing well. Maybe I’ve been burned by other brands lately, but these feel like you are getting decent quality cookies for the price you pay.

Overall I would say these are good enough that I am both sad and glad I found these later in life. Sad that I missed out on eating more of these, but glad because I would likely be even fatter than I already am because of it. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for this brand more often now.
