Pepero – White Cookie

I won’t pretend to have a true preference between Pocky and Pepero. That’s an age old debate that doesn’t need to be stoked and I find room in my heart, pantry and stomach for both. If I want something with more novel and seasonal flavours I go for Pocky, if I want something with more texture and bite, I get Pepero. A stick for every occasion, as they say.

In case you lost the box and didn’t know what it was.

My standard sized box here has a single pouch that houses 9 sticks. I feel like I would have preferred a slightly bigger box that had more pouches and costed more, but I guess with how big these sticks are they need more packaging to protect the goods. Admittedly these are quite bottom heavy so it makes sense why they can’t put too many in a pack.

They look skinny from the top.

Oddly enough they don’t have much of any smell to them. Thankfully that doesn’t translate to flavour, as these are a fairly basic flavour profile but it does it’s job well. It’s a biscuit stick dipped in white chocolate and coated in chocolate cookie crumbs and delivering what is essentially cookies and cream. It’s got a solid flavour and isn’t too sweet but still delivering the flavour you would expect of something similar to a crushed Oreo captured in white chocolate. The biscuit itself is rather mild and reminds me of an animal cracker in stick form. My only complaint is I feel a milder biscuit or more bland and neutral one would work well with the cookies and cream which has just the right amount of sweetness already.

But they heavy on the bottom.

The texture is a nice clean snap from the biscuit, softened by the the somewhat thin layer of chocolate coating that has bits of cookie strewn about. It’s like having a cookies and cream chocolate bar but with the added texture of a biscuit, which isn’t something I would have expected to enjoy. But I do, and the whole things comes together to deliver an delightful munching experience overall. I might actually enjoy this more than the original almond flavour, but it could also just be that I haven’t had it recently.

They really dipped those sticks eh?

This flavour is pretty solid and while I tend not to prefer cookies and cream as a flavour, these have the right balance in texture and flavour that I could see a situation where I get this again. Being someone who is more texture than flavour, I like these more than a generic Pocky of the same flavour.

The equivalent of three actual Oreos.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
