Poptastic – Honey Salt
The popcorn game is something else. Most snacks get a rep for being terribly unhealthy, but popcorn somehow escapes that fate. Most snacks we know are bad for you, but some like popcorn we associate with being the lesser of all evils, and in some cases dare I say, a healthy snack. I suspect a lot of this comes from the ease of which popcorn is made, and how light and airy the flavour generally is. After all, it’s just taking kernels and popping them, right?
The flavour is relatively subtle, but in a good way. You don’t leave feeling as disgusted when you finish well above the standard serving size in one sitting. The combination of honey and salt achieves what is essentially a kettle flavour. What is usually sugar and salt is classed up and for the most part, is indistinguishable from the standard flavour, except for said mildness. My palate isn’t discerning enough to really tell apart honey and sugar in this case, but something about this combination has a very, ever so slight maple quality to it. It’s also not overly sweet or salty so for those wanting a more strong or vibrant flavour, you may find yourself wanting more. Personally I find it nice to have something a bit more natural tasting and not too heavy.

As I often point out with a lot of these popcorn brands, there’s not too much variation between the competition as far as the texture goes. Good popcorn is good, and goes largely unnoticed. It’s only when it’s bad you notice it, and these aren’t that. These are really solid and like many other kettle style popcorn brands, strike that perfect balance flavour with a nice light texture. The main downside however, is that you end up eating way more than you realize. By the time you do notice, it’s already too late…

I would be lying if I said I was objective when it came to anything Hardbite, but the flavour philosophy in their potato chips carries over to their popcorn and so it’s not for everyone. For someone who wants a more natural, less artificial experience, these are top notch. But again, it may not be for everyone. If you want something with stronger flavour, this may not be it for you. Texture is on point though, so if nothing else these are nice light popcorn. Go ahead and give it a try if you see them.
