Ritter Sport – Chill Out Creamy Milk
Some people enjoy summer for the weather. As someone who hates heat, I can’t say I’m a big fan of summer. But I am nothing if not an optimist deep down, and one of the things that keeps me trucking through those hot summer months is the release of seasonal summer flavours. Chocolate is not the best candidate when it comes to that sweltering summer heat, but it’s hard to resist the idea of summer flavours with bright, vibrant motifs.
Interestingly enough, the tagline on the packaging says Chill Out with a nice baby blue background, and a cartoon character lying down jamming out to what I can only assume is Lo-fi music. The brief description of this flavour is that it’s milk chocolate with a creamy milk filling. I’ve had a lot of Ritter Sport flavours, and most of them have been of the filled variety. I somehow doubt this won’t be something I haven’t already tried, but doesn’t hurt to be sure. For science!

There’s a decent amount of filling in here, not unlike their other bars. The overall flavour is typical Ritter Sport milk chocolate – in other words on the sweeter side. The milk filling on the inside is largely undiscernable from the rest of the bar, other than the fact that it’s softer and has more of a dairy flavour and less of the chocolate flavour. It’s not that different from the shell of a kinder egg, truthfully. While the ratio isn’t quite as even, it does have that same flavour profile which is not bad.

The texture is quite soft, and the filling contributes to the melty, soft and sweet finish that the pieces have if you leave it in your mouth. Maybe it’s just me but when I see blue and the words chill out, I expect some sort of cooling or relaxing effect of the chocolate. Knowing it is supposedly creamy milk didn’t stop me from expecting a peppermint to show up and punch me in the taste buds at some point. A man can only dream.
As far as Ritter Sport goes, these aren’t bad but this feels more of a one and done flavour. It’s not bad but I don’t see myself picking this over any other flavour. Milk flavours are a dime a dozen even for Ritter Sport, so nothing about these really grabs my attention. That being said if you put these in front of me I probably would end up devouring them.
