Ritter Sport – Coffee Duo Milky Macchiato and Crunchy Coffee

Ritter does a pretty good balance of coming up with new, interesting flavours and focusing on the ones they have in their assortment. And they have quite a few, if we’re being honest. I don’t recall there being too many coffee based flavours, so both of these are somewhat of a novelty to me.

This big chonker of a square has the light, tan coloured piece as macchiato and the darker one being the crunchy coffee. As you may recall, I am not a big fan of coffee, or coffee flavoured items. But I am drawn to novelty and this is as novel as it gets, so full steam ahead. A big part of me is hoping I enjoy this enough to at least finish it, because boy is there a lot to handle here. The sum of two regular sized bars is still less than all the squares this bad boy has.

The lettering will help guide you.

The milky macchiato side of things has a flavour that is quite strong and undeniably espresso like. It’s got a lot of sweetness cutting the bitter notes, with a strong vanilla and dairy flavour coming together. Overall the whole thing reminds me of a coffee crisp, but without the wafers. The texture has some small bits of what remind me of nibs or beans, but overall it mostly just delivers on the smooth and creamy aspect of the filling.

You’d be forgiven for thinking this was a nut creme flavour.

On the darker side of things we have the crunchy coffee – the flavour is not as strong in coffee, but more on cocoa flavour and feels like a dense, rich cocoa filling with coffee flavour added on top. The coffee flavour is there, but after having the macchiato, this one feels more chocolate forward. The texture has what I assume are little ground of bits of coffee beans, and it adds a nice crunch to it. It also serves to release some more coffee flavour as you bite into it. I am now wondering if the first coffee grounder was a dude who decided to chew coffee beans and noticed the flavour it released.

Besides the lettering, the dark colour should clue you in to the flavour.

As someone who does not enjoy coffee or coffee adjacent products or beverages, I still have to admit that the overall execution on both halves is done quite superbly. Would I do it again? Probably not if it’s for me. But would I get it as a gift or share it with others? Definitely. If I were a coffee lover, this would be a very high ranking flavour without a doubt.

Nothing to crazy as far as calories go.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
