Ritter Sport – Crunchy Creamy Winter
Most people who know me on any personal level will know at least two things about me – I love Ritter Sport, and I love the holidays because of special limited edition seasonal flavours. It stands to reason then, if you combine those two things, you end up with something truly magical. I mean mathematically, that’s how it works out right? But we are intellectuals, and so we have to prove that hypothesis one way or another.
So this flavour is a fashionably late flavour, but as you can tell it’s meant for winter. The flavour is supposedly some sort of candied almond in milk chocolate, with some spices like cinnamon I assume, to give it that festive feel. If you didn’t tell me what this was and asked me to guess, I would have assumed something festive and Christmas like, like gingerbread.

The best part of the flavour, to me at least is the cinnamon. I can’t tell if there’s any other spices in the bar, but the cinnamon does give it a sort of gingerbread quality. It could be my mind playing tricks, but it reminds me of a spiced cookie you would get during Christmas, and has that distinct flavour to it that I quite enjoy. The candied almonds also have that distinct roasted almond flavour paired with the caramelized sugar coating that also adds another layer of sweetness to it to make this feel quite decadent. As usual, the milk chocolate is on the sweeter side, so that’s the only complaint. Otherwise the flavour is executed fairly well and definitely giving me nostalgia.

The texture is quite pleasing as well, with the candied almonds giving it a nice distinct crunch that’s both crisp and crunchy at the same time. Think of the distinct crunch of a chocolate almond, and add a thin layer of candy or brittle to it, and you have a sense of how these are. Candied almonds are hard to go wrong with, and if you add on a decent chocolate, you’ve got an easy win as we have here today.
It’s honestly a little surprising that I’ve yet to encounter a Ritter Sport bar that doesn’t pull off the almond execution. There have been bars that I wasn’t crazy about in terms of overall flavour, but it was never the fault of the almonds. Their nut game is on point as always.
I enjoyed this bar, and I could see them bringing this back for the next holiday season. I look forward to getting this again, if and when that does happen. An easy winning flavour in my books.
