Ritter Sport – Duo Crispy Cream and Choco Crunch

In a rather peculiar but attention grabbing new offering, Ritter Sport released something called Duo – two flavours in a single bar. That might sound pedestrian, but the real shocker and what caught me off guard was seeing this in person. These things are far larger than the usual 4 x 4 bar. This is a giant, 6 x 6 bar, with half the bar being one flavour and the second being the other half. That leaves you with 18 squares of each flavour, which is already more than the standard 16.

This particular bar is the crispy cream and choco crunch flavours. They appear to be relatively rare, if not new flavours. Crispy cream is hazelnut creme and cornflakes, while choco crunch is cocoa cream with bits of hazelnut and macaron. Even as stand alone flavours I would be interested in trying each one, but put them into a single bar? Well howdy do, I am almost doubly excited!

The magnitude and scale of this is something else.

It really is a sight to behold how big it is, but I could only fit half in the picture. Imagine twice this. An absolute unit. Also interesting that the two halves have different working, with one half using the standard Ritter Sport marking on each square, and the other saying Duo.

The crispy cream is reminiscent of a light, sweet hazelnut cream with the added texture of the cornflakes that Ritter is famous for. The milk chocolate makes the whole experience a bit on the sweeter side, but at the same kind of hard to put down with the crunchy crispy bits of cornflakes that make you want to go back in for more.

The light side.

The choco cream is interesting and I do wonder why they decided on macarons, but the cocoa cream itself is very rich, not overly sweet and the bits of hazelnut make it a nice decadent experience. The macaron bits are a bit hard to triangulate, but I’d say the hazelnut bits are what help to provide some texture and crunch, while the macaron bits add an ever so noticeable crunchy, almost airy mouth feel.

Vs. the dark side.

I can see how these two flavours would be consumed together, since the crispy cream side is lighter and sweeter, and the choco cream one is richer and darker. I wouldn’t mind getting these individual, separate from one another, but having them together is also a fun and novel idea and I would certainly get this one again.

I wonder if the calories are for one side or average of the two.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
