Shoei Delicy – Strawberry Crunch Chocolate
Prior to this I’ve had no exposure to this brand, so I’m going into this pretty much blind. These types of chocolates can really be hit or miss depending on the execution, so I’m a little wary. The packaging looks decent enough that the product could be decent, but enticing enough that I could just as equally be hit by misleading advertising and a mediocre product. As they often say, nothing ventured nothing gained.
As far as I can tell there are two flavours – the red wrapper being strawberry chocolate and the white wrapper being strawberry milk. Apart from the coating, the piece looks like a biscuit or cookie and that’s what drew me in. I love a good crunchy chocolatey experience, so the rewards would outweigh the risks for me.

Opening the bag reveals 14 little packs of crunchy chocolate bars, with 7 of each flavour. It also smells very fragrant, very enticing and very distinctly strawberry. As basic as it seems, it’s hard to argue against a good, tasty artificial strawberry flavour. Especially the good Japanese ones.

The flavour is different between the two, but the underlying concept is the same – it’s all about that strawberry. The red wrapper has a more straight forward strawberry and chocolate flavour, with the top pink section being strawberry and the bottom being milk chocolate. This one is the less sweet of the two and has a flavour that reminds me of a chocolate dipped strawberry.

The strawberry milk piece is more uniform in flavour, and the entire piece is just strawberry milk flavour. While this one is sweeter, it’s somehow more tasty and consistent to me, with it’s strong strawberry flavour that reminds me of an ice cream or a milkshake.

The texture is the same on both, and consists of cornflakes, biscuits and tiny bits of strawberry. The texture is surprisingly dense and crunchy, and was honestly better than I expected. I was expecting it to be very airy or light, but this is dense and is like a more corn flake heavy version of a strawberry Black Thunder, which is high praise coming from me. The piece is small, but the crunch is big, and does a good job leaving me satisfied after just one. These however, are addictive enough that I want to eat more than one…

I’ll cut to the chase – these are an absolute delight to consume, and I find myself wishing I bought a second, back up bag. I have no concept of whether this is some sort of limited edition flavour or a seasonal one, but I do hope I run into this again as it is an easy buy from me.
