Shoei Delicy – Winter Crunch Chocolate
I have no clue what this brand is, or what they are known for. All I really know is they released a really tasty strawberry chocolate bar that had equal parts crunch and chocolate that left an impression on me. Not a common thing for a relatively obscure brand in this day and age. But a great example of why it pays to try new things. Given their success in that flavour, I figure we might have equal success with this flavour too.

Winter Crunch doesn’t exactly make me think of crunchy chocolate bars, but let’s roll with it. This bag has a total of 15 pieces, 7 chocolate and 8 vanilla. Each of these is relatively small, and it would be fair to call these bite sized. Let’s see if they live up to my very high expectations.

The vanilla smells like a milkshake or ice cream of the same flavour. It’s not the fancy french vanilla, and more like the more generic, cheaper vanilla flavour profile that is found in most budget vanilla flavours. It’s got the notable sweet dairy like flavour of vanilla that is distinct. Which is kind of weird to say when you think about the concept of vanilla as a flavour.

The texture for both of these is the same, with the only difference being the flavour. It’s very much like a corn flake bar that was slathered and smothered in a melted chocolate or vanilla ice cream. It has a distinct crunch that has subsequent gritty texture to it, but also an airiness about it that lets you know of it’s distinct corn flake composition.

The chocolate is a pretty typical milk chocolate but with a little extra cocoa flavour. It sort of reminds me of a chocolate milk or an ice cream. I’m noticing both flavours are very ice cream like, which is interesting. I tend to associate this flavour with Nesquik as a kid, where I would go heavier on the spoonfuls of chocolate powder to get an extra rich flavour. While not as sweet as the vanilla, this is sweet enough that I would tend to consider this milk more than dark.

As expected, these are honestly quite good, and while the flavour isn’t as good as the strawberry flavour, the texture more than makes up for it. If you can somehow find these somewhere, go get a bag. It’s well worth the price tag.
