Snack Factory – Garlic Parmesan Pretzel Crisps
Memories escape you as you get older. Sometimes you get memories mixed up and you’re not quite sure if you are remembering something correctly. I feel like this whole concept has been done before and I’ve had it, but I just can’t remember specifics and I’ve now managed to convince myself it’s all a made up memory like the Mandela effect. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what was reality and what was simply what we willed to be reality. Life is weird amirite?
I bring that all up because flattened pretzels strike me as something that’s been done many times before, but I just can’t seem to recall when or where. That’s why just to be safe, I think this is an important product to try and get on the official record.
Pretzels are usually more tubular (if that’s the right word) and end up looking like a stick got tied into a knot. These however, are more like crackers. They are like if you took one of the standard pretzels when they were still cooking, and flattened them. These intrigue me cause even if pretzels are usually plain and boring, the shape and form factor of these can definitely make a difference in the overall experience. Sort of like how you can elevate an otherwise boring sandwich by flattening it on a grill. Who doesn’t love a good panini?
As you can imagine, these are more on the salty side – not only does it have the standard salt that pretzels have, they also have a coating of garlic Parmesan seasoning. The seasoning is great though, and I feel like it really makes the crackers less plain and one note. Just be wary that it’s the strong, shelf stable stuff where the smell is strong and will stick to your lips for hours. You’ve been warned.
The texture is very firm and has the distinct snap that pretzels usually have. Because they are so flat, most of the experience is the outside of the pretzel, as the dry, white inside of the pretzel is in much small proportion to the outer shell. These are great for snacking on alone for someone who enjoys that texture like me, but these can also work as a dipping mechanism since it seems to hold up pretty well.
These seem to really work for me. While not a huge fan of pretzels in general, something about the flattened out, cracker shaped format works in its favour and I could see myself getting these again. They are on the pricier side though, so it’s more of a “when it goes on sale” type of a purchase more than an impulse buy. Still worth a try if you like either pretzels or dense, solid crackers.
