Snappers – Dark Chocolate Caramel & Pretzel Cluster

Snappers has been tested enough times that I can safely put it in the bucket of chocolate snacks that is not a risky try. They’ve proven they can crank out a decent product from what I’ve had so far, so I feel like any new offering I try is a safe choice. Ideally.

This particular offering is not really anything new. In fact, this is really just their normal, signature product but with a different chocolate. The main actor in this is supposed to be the caramel, with the pretzel and chocolate being supports. While I do prefer the coated version of these, I figure I might as well give these a shot too, since they seem so popular. Let’s see what all the fuss is about.

These look as advertised – it’s a giant glob of caramel that’s got some pretzels strewn about, and a drizzle of chocolate put on top of it all. It’s a relatively simple snack in concept and design, and I don’t imagine it’s too hard to execute either. Actually scratch that, caramel is pretty tough to work with if you don’t know what you’re doing…

Look at this giant mess of chocolate and caramel. I love it.

There’s not a whole lot different between this and the milk chocolate brother – it’s the same combination of pretzel, chocolate and caramel. All the textures are the same, from the crisp bite of the pretzel, the chewy, sticky centre that is the caramel, and the slight coating and drizzle of chocolate that helps to contrast the dry snap of the pretzel. Being that it is caramel, it’s a nice experience at first but it does end up devolving into a sticky mess near the end, but I assume you’re into that if you’re interested in caramel.

Caramel gets into every crevice.

The flavour is also not that different from the milk chocolate version – beyond the slightly darker variety of chocolate used here, the only other difference I can really taste is that this one is less sweet, so naturally the salt is more prominent. Whether that means they actually used more salt or not is debatable, and I don’t know the answer to that. As a dark chocolate enjoyer though, I can confirm that the less sweet, more cocoa flavour from the dark chocolate is a generally better match for this format. Caramel tends to be quite sweet on it’s own as is, so you don’t really need any additional sweetness from chocolate. Overall this seems to work in the dark chocolate variety’s favour much more.

While I still prefer a higher ratio of dark chocolate to even out the sweetness and make things less sticky, this is still a decent snack. I’d say between this and the milk chocolate, this is the superior version in every way. Unless you really, really feel you aren’t getting enough sugar in your diet (which I doubt), this dark one is the way to go over the milk.

These do as much damage as Oreos.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
