Tirol Chocolate – 7-11 Cafe Latte
Some people may not truly understand the depths of how entrenched 7-11 is over in Japan. They have their own TV programming that is just various ways to advertise and sell their own brand product. It’s a bit surreal thinking about it, but given how successful they are over there, it’s no surprise in the grand scheme. As someone who is generally more suspicious of corporations and large, non-personal entities, it is just a wee bit concerning to me. Having said that, look! Cute crossover products!

It feels like I haven’t kept in touch with Tirol too much lately, so I’m hoping to reconnect with what should be a safe flavour. I mean, it’s 7-11 – they have their own game show segments in Japan selling their in-store products. Surely they would ensure this is a decent product too, right?
This product is based around their own branded cafe products. Think of it like how McDonald’s has McCafe. Except 7-11 in Japan can basically turn everything into an own brand version. Whether it’s one time use underwear, hot food, drinks or snacks, they do it all, baby.

I don’t know much about coffee in general as I don’t drink it, so I can’t really say much about this beyond the fact that it’s got a very distinct coffee flavour to it, but also a bit of dairy smoothness to it. It’s pretty much bang on to what you expect from a latte. I don’t know the difference between a good or bad latte either, just the general taste of it, and this is pretty bang on.
The texture is fairly typical for Tirol affair – the center is pretty much just chocolate, but with a little bit of honey which is very syrupy in texture. Honestly nothing special or to write home about, and it’s really just serving as a way to focus on the flavour, which is the main focus. Which is fine in this case because they do the flavour pretty well, regardless of if you like the flavour of coffee and lattes or not.

I daresay I enjoyed this more than I have any right to, especially given I do not enjoy coffee flavour or lattes, or really anything bean adjacent as far as drinks go. But these are undeniably good, and I suspect they know that because I have no doubt in my mind they would bring this one back next season. Especially since they’ve done it before.
