Tirol Chocolate – Apple Pie

Every time I think I miss a Tirol flavour, about half the time it comes back the year after so I’m not too sad when I miss a release. Apple pie is one of those (I’m pretty sure), so I’m excited to get my grubby paws on this one. It’s one of the bigger pieces, which means more room for creativity.

Obviously the pieces I got are a little worse for wear, but they were still enjoyable. The flavour is sort of reminiscent of french toast, or a buttery pastry. The apple flavour comes through fairly strong as well, owing largely to the apple jelly in combination with what I suspect are dried apple bits. The whole thing comes together to remind me of an apple croissant more than an apple pie, but it’s no less tasty for it. Something about buttery pastries and apples just seems right. Like a nice lemonade on a warm summer day, or mosquitos on an overnight camping trip.

What I look like after a long day of being outside in summer.

The texture is like if you took the crust of a pie, added some biscuit bits and some small, soft dried apple pieces and put it all inside a chocolate. It’s as tasty as it sounds. Admittedly the texture is a bit of a mish mash where you have the soft chewy apple pieces, and the crisp biscuit bits. While not soft or warm enough to be an actual apple pie, it is quite tasty for what it’s trying to be and it succeeds at it. Realistically it’s hard to get closer to an apple pie in a tiny square like this, but they managed to make it work. Even the little bit of apple jelly works, and reminds me of the nice syrupy apples in an actual pie.

It looks simple but don’t be deceived.

Experience has taught me that Tirol does a pretty decent job when it comes to pastry based flavours. They definitely know how to work a crust into a slab of chocolate. Overall this was very tasty, and one of my more favoured Tirol flavours. I believe this is a seasonal flavour that comes back every year or so, and you can bet your top dollar I will get this again.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
