Tirol Chocolate – Green Tea

There are some flavours that I wonder if I’ve come to appreciate more as I get older, or if it just so happens to become more popular and mainstream and companies just learn how to do it better or integrate it more effectively. When it comes to matcha, I’ve always had a soft spot for it, but I’m sure it’s surge in the mainstream has definitely made it easier to be a top choice as it’s basically in everything now.

Similar to the mochi flavours, I’ve had my fair share of matcha flavoured Tirol chocolates. This one is different because it’s a two toned flavour. Like a fancy gold and steel wrist watch. This has a top layer of a deeper, richer and darker matcha flavour, with the bottom being a lighter, milder tasting one. It’s a bit of an oddity in that there’s no special filling or gimmicky going on inside. Just pure, unadulterated matcha flavour.

Shrinkflation hit us all.

I’m no expert at matcha and what the colours mean, I just know if I like it or not. I think Tirol in general does matcha flavours, and it will just be a matter of how much I enjoy this. One thing to note that’s a bit disappointing, this is only six pieces to a bag. Sigh. A sign of the times I guess.

Exactly what you would expect.

Texture is honestly nothing too special – it’s a solid block of chocolate so I am much less inclined to chew these, and much more inclined to leave them in my mouth and let it melt so I can get all the flavour. Sometimes it’s the simple things that are the hardest ones to do properly.

Not much to see on the inside.

The flavour is definitely a fairly rich matcha flavour that I’ve come to expect from Japanese chocolates. I certainly can’t tell the difference between the two different tones, and it seems it all sort of meshes together either really well or really poorly. Basically it’s like getting a matcha bubble tea or latte, and mixing it all up so you never knew it was more than one flavour to begin with. It’s not necessarily a bad thing though, and it might just be a colour thing to give the illusion that there’s two different flavours. Kind of like how all Fruit Loops are the same flavour but our brain thinks their different because of the distinct colours.

It’s a nice change up from the usual gimmicky Tirol that has something in centre. This is just plain jane chocolate, nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. I would consider getting this one again, as the flavour is fairly solid and just to my liking, not too bitter, not too sweet. Within the goldilocks range.

There’s a lot of calories here.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
