Tirol Chocolate – Peach Parfait
Peach parfait, or at least what I recognize as the dessert is a combination of peach slices, yogurt, and crunchy granola/oats or crunchy cookie bits. It’s something I enjoyed as a kid, but at some point I stopped liking the combination of yogurt, crunchy oats and fruit. I’m fine with all of the components individually, but for some odd reason the combination of all of them doesn’t speak to me. I wonder if I have a suppressed memory where a peach parfait hurt me…
The chocolate has some tart tiny fruit pieces which taste like little peach jellies. There’s also these crunchy bits which I assume are cookie or biscuit pieces to emulate the crunchy parfait bits. The chocolate itself has a peach flavouring to it, but it’s honestly kind of strange and unnatural tasting. Thankfully the flavour of the chocolate is relatively mild and the jelly pieces do most of the carrying. It’s not quite as sweet as Fuzzy Peaches but more floral and pleasant tasting. Flavour in general is relatively mild here, so I guess they’re hoping the texture is what carries it.
The texture is somewhat like a granola bar. The jelly peach pieces and the crunchy bits remind me of an actual parfait, and how when you try to eat it all together bits get stuck and wedged between your teeth. In that aspect, this is pretty authentic recreation of the whole ordeal. The one thing that I didn’t like about a lot of parfaits is that sometimes sometimes the granola might contain some dried fruits or nuts that have a slightly stick texture so that it’s not a clean crunch, and it gets wedged into the teeth. I’m starting to remember why I don’t like parfaits – obviously I’ve had a few bad experiences. It’s enough to give me flashbacks to muesli cereals that have crunchy oats and random hard dried fruit that totally throws the experience off for me personally.
I was kind of getting into it at first but that weird aftertaste of the peach chocolate was slightly off putting and nothing about the piece was really outstanding to me. An interesting flavour to be sure, but not one I feel the need to try again. This is definitely a one and done situation for me. Even if you like peach or parfaits, it’s a little hard to recommend these if you can’t stand strong, weird aftertastes.
