Tirol Chocolate – Retro Maritozzo & Pistachio Dessert

The last product I could get my hands on in the seasonal retro line up that Tirol has is between the years of 2019 to now. If I’m being honest, the only real thing I remember is that one big thing that happened in between, and everything else was sort of a haze. That might explain why I don’t really have much personal connection to either the pistachio dessert or maritozzo. Maritozzo is something I’ve had before, which is basically a combination of whipped cream and a bun.

Yet again, I am pleasantly greeted by 8 pieces with an even split of 4 each.

Take it all in.

The maritozzo is arguably a bit of lazy piece, as there’s nothing going on here but flavoured chocolate. The texture really is just the standard, solid block of chocolate, but with multiple layers which I assume mimic a bun, and whipped cream.

Appearances can sometimes be deceiving.

I don’t have much to say about this, as it reminds me of those baked goods flavours that Tirol has done in the past, whether it’s croissants, cookies or waffles, they all have a similar buttery flavour to it which is ever present here. Again, not bad but also very plain and a bit boring.

This one isn’t though…just disappointing.

The pistachio dessert is also a solid block of chocolate, but at least this one has some additional filling going on to shake things up on the texture front.

Hopefully this looks worse than it tastes.

The texture is also a solid block of chocolate, but there are little bits of pistachio slivers so that helps to add a slight crunch to it so you’re not just biting into a block of pistachio flavoured chocolate. Pistachio tends to be very mild and subtle in flavour, so don’t expect too much here. It does remind of pistachio though, so between the two pieces this one is a clear winner.

Slightly better than the other one.

I’m noticing with all three of these retro products, I really only like one of the two flavours. In this case I like the pistachio, but the maritozzo is really nothing special to put it nicely. Yet another 50/50 for me. Here’s to hoping next year’s seasonal flavours spend more effort on the execution than the marketing.

Yet again, not worth the calories.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
