Tirol Chocolate – Strawberry Milk Mochi

I know what you’re thinking. “Bear, didn’t you already review this flavour?!” Well yes, but actually no. You see viewers, the previous flavour was supposed to simulate a strawberry daifuku, which is basically a mochi filled with red bean paste and a strawberry. This on the other hand, is supposed to simulate….well essentially the same thing. Except instead of red bean paste, it has a milk like filling instead. Look, all I know is these are two different flavours ok?!

He might as well be a mascot at this point.

Based on how the previous flavour went, I’m a bit hesitant to get my hopes up about this one. People who know me would probably be quick to classify me as a pessimist, but I prefer to consider myself a realist. I’m also a lot more open to new experiences and giving people the benefit of the doubt, than I lead people to believe. It’s just not something I go around advertising. It’s the same trait that will allow me to go into this with an open mind and try not to attach my prior experience to this review. But I’m only human. I do however, have a soft spot for fake/artificial strawberry flavour, so there’s that.

Two tone pieces get me excited.

This really does taste more like a strawberry milk candy than a strawberry and milk candy. Flavour wise there’s a few things going on at the same time. The top layer is a strawberry chocolate flavour, while the bottom is a white, milk-like flavoured chocolate. The center holds the mochi, with a thin layer of strawberry sauce on top. The flavours all seem to converge into a nice, if artificial strawberry milk experience. It works well though, since it leaves me coming back for more. It doesn’t have a very strong flavour to the point that it leaves much of an aftertaste, so snacking on these can be dangerous. I found myself plowing through them quite quickly. It has that same floral, sweet strawberry flavour as the ichigo daifuku flavour, but it also has more variety in the flavours and not just sweetness.

Looks tame and quiet on the outside. What secrets lie within?

The texture is nothing new to me, having tried so many Tirol’s. What I will say is that this one is one of the more pleasant ones. The strawberry sauce isn’t actually that sweet, and has a bit of tartness to help balance out the rest of the piece. The mochi is always a welcome addition to give more chew to the piece, and is probably my favourite part of it all. It really brings everything together.

Four layers that somehow all work together in harmony.

I would probably get a bag of these again. I would definitely pick this over the ichigo daifuku flavour. I feel like this one is less plain and while it’s just as sweet if not sweeter, it has more flavour as well and is just a more pleasant experience. While I would pass on the ichigo daifuku flavour, I wouldn’t pass on this one. I would recommend this one for sure, especially to people who like me, enjoy that fake strawberry flavour.

33 calories seems fair, given how much is going on inside.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
