Toppo – Tiramisu
It’s been a while since I’ve found a new Toppo flavour to try. They don’t exactly crank out a new flavour too often, so it’s not hard to keep up with them. It’s why this one caught my eye. Now full disclosure, I’ve mentioned before that Tiramisu isn’t remotely a go to dessert for me, and it’s pretty far down on my list of desserts I like. That being said, if no other option is presented, I won’t say not to it usually. But I also don’t particularly enjoy the coffee flavour, so forgive me if I’m not completely objective on this one.
As with all Toppo offerings, these come in two pouches. Each pouch feels pretty hefty, and each one has about 12 sticks by my count. It’s a little hard to tell since a few of my sticks have been shattered or crushed. On an unrelated note, I wonder if they’ve done away with the fat sticks, where you would get 8 in a pouch instead of 12. I find the ratio of chocolate to biscuit in the fatter sticks to be more to my preference, but it seems 12 is more popular.

The texture is still classic Toppo style and what I love about it – it’s got a nice thick yet clean snapping pretzel like biscuit on the outside, and the chocolate on the inside is not quite hard but not quite soft and has the perfect consistency. Sometimes when you get filled pretzels the chocolate sticks to one side and you have big air pockets, but this is pure filled chocolate with no air pockets or gaps. It’s all chocolate baby.

The flavour is sort of like a tiger cub – you know what it is, and it’s trying it’s level best to be a scary grown tiger. But it’s also adorable and tiny and so it’s hard for you to take it seriously. The tiramisu flavour here is present, and the smell is strong, but the flavour is on the more subtle and mild side, but from what you can taste you can tell they are trying hard. I will give it an A for effort, but a C on execution since the coffee flavour in tiramisus is usually quite strong. The flavour here is distinct, but it’s on the muted side and leaves a bit to be desired.
I do my utmost to try and stay as objective as possible, so it is with some sadness i have to say that this is a pass from me. If i wanted bland chocolate filling, there’s plenty of other flavours and brands I could go with. The texture is still top notch, but the flavour (or lack thereof) kills it for me, so I can’t in good conscience recommend the tiramisu flavour. Go try a different flavour though.
