YOU NEED THIS – Plant-Based Nacho Grain-Free Tortilla Chips

Every so often on my quest to find new snacks, I browse online storefronts and start adding random items to my shopping cart without much care about what brand something is as long as it looks interesting. I saw the words plant based and tortilla chips and was instantly curious and added to cart. I somehow completely glazed over the in-your-face marketing going on here.

Surprisingly the aggressive marketing tagline isn’t what caught my eyes on these chips. It was actually the text in orange that read planted based nacho flavoured grain-free tortilla chips. If it seems like there’s a lot to parse out there, that’s because it is. In essence, these are gluten free, non-GMO, and vegan.

They look a little grainier.

I can’t be sure if it’s just my bag or they are all like this, but they are very well seasoned. Almost every part of the chip is coated in the powder, which truthfully is quite a lot to take in. It’s more of a personal preference but I would be ok if the seasoning was toned down a bit, as it comes across pretty strong. The flavour is strong, distinct and punchy. Something that’s a bit different from the other brands is the slight spice kick from the tail end is stronger and lingers a bit. I’m not sure if it’s the onion powder, garlic powder, paprika or all three, but it’s distinct, but in a good way. I think if the seasoning was toned down a bit, I would enjoy this more.

They sort of remind me of deep fried whole wheat crackers.

The texture is reminiscent of those chia based chips where it’s got a slightly crisp cracker texture to it, but still more of a chip. The flour used that consists of mostly cassava and other veggies, give it a firmer, crunchier texture than a typical tortilla chip which I personally love. They don’t seem to specify if these are fried or baked, but going off texture it’s likely fried.

Overall these have a nice hearty crunch to them, and I enjoy these quite a bit. My only complaint is that the seasoning is a bit overdone and keeps me from eating too many in one sitting (which is probably for the best). Otherwise, I am excited to keep an eye on this brand and see what else they come out with. The tagline is admittedly a little cheesy, but maybe YOU WANT THIS is a better fit for the brand. I would definitely do it again.

Good luck only eating 8 chips in one sitting.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
