Cheeza Crackers – Cheddar Cheese

In a previous review of the Avocadooza crackers, I had my first experience with Glico’s Cheeza line. I figured I’d do a quick review on one of their more standard, or staple flavours. Cheddar cheese is as safe as they come, wouldn’t you agree?

This package has instructions on the back. I assume it’s saying that you can bake these for a cheesier experience. Unfortunately, I have neither the will or motivation to do this, and as such will be eating them straight out of the bag. It also seems to imply that I should be drinking for this, but I think I’ll get by without any fancy wine.

Did not follow instructions. I’m a maverick.

And to the surprise of no one, it smells like…..cheese. I say that, but I also have noticed that Japanese cheese snacks have a distinctly different smell/taste to American cheese products. For one, there is a more smoky, almost burnt smell to the cheese, and there tends to be this almost indescribable, underlying sweetness to it. Almost as if they added sugar or something extra to the cheese. I guess there’s only one way to find out if that applies here.

Each cracker looks very thin.

The smell is as previously mentioned, a distinct cheese smell, but different from what you would expect from American cheeses. The pieces look to be quite thin, and a bit thinner than the Avocado crackers I tried before. I’m kind of reminded of those mass market cheese crackers that Betty Crocker cranks out.

From a texture perspective, these don’t feel like crackers. They have a texture much more akin to a crisp or almost a chip. They remind me of cheese that is put into a toaster or a microwave until it has melted down to a crisp sheet of hardened cheese. In other words, I love it. The flavour is very cheesy, and is also like they took a piece of cheese and just melted it into a nice crisp piece. Imagine your typical cheese cracker, cut down in size by half but maintaining the same level of cheesy flavour. It’s got a good, concentrated flavour of cheese.

Apart from the fact that these things cost anywhere between 3 to 4 for a 40g pack, I’d say these are superior to other typical cheese crackers in every way. The flavour is strong, and the texture of the crackers is great. Not much to complain about here, so if you see these, grab one to try.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
