Coris Cajilicho Melon Bread & Melon Soda
This week has been pretty packed with food. But busy as I might be, I would still make time to take a break and try something new. Today is a product from a brand I actually haven’t heard of or known about. This product by Coris is a soft, chewy candy stick that combines the flavours of melon bread and melon soda. Kind of an odd combination, when you consider that melon bread is really just the outside of the bun; it doesn’t actually taste like melon. At least it’s not supposed to. Melon soda is probably going to be melon flavoured, with something like pop rocks or fizzy pieces to simulate the carbonation.
The stick looks to be a sizeable length. It reminds me a bit of a Slim Jim or pepperoni snack stick, except green and sweet. As I open the wrapper, I have come to the realization that most melon flavoured candies are going to smell and taste identical to a Melona bar. Based on smell alone, I can already tell what it’s going to taste like. Not that I mind, I love Melona bars.
The chew is not quite as bouncy or firm as a Hi-Chew, and it kind of melts away quickly, and in a way that is reminiscent of a nougat. The candy has a grainy finish, which may or may not be a good thing depending on what you prefer. The downside is that this piece is actually a bit on the sweet side, and the aftertaste leaves an almost greasy feeling in the mouth. Not too crazy about that part. The flavour is fairly generic melon, and has a bit of a dairy, almost milky aftertaste. Almost like a melon milk drink.
I’m not sure that I would do this again, if I’m being frank. The flavour is a tad too generic for me, without any benefit. The chew is a bit on the soft side, and the grainy, greasy finish isn’t ideal for me. I also don’t get where the melon bread comes into play, as the flavour was pretty much just melon with a few candy pieces which didn’t really add anything to the overall candy. It seems gimmicky at best, but I’m also guessing it’s aimed at younger children while I’m….not that.
