DARS Chocolate – White Strawberry

I haven’t had a whole lot of experience with DARS, not like I have with some other snacks. But since I started trying out DARS, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. From their easy to share pieces, to the convenient packaging, it feels like something that has been perfected over a long period of time. They may not have as many gimmicky flavours, but their old standards are tried and true, and I can appreciate that.

That being said, today’s flavour is, as far as I’m aware more of a seasonal flavour. I can’t imagine this is a new seasonal flavour though, given that strawberry is such a common and popular flavour, and the combo of white chocolate just seems to make sense.

I mentioned this before, but I really do enjoy the general sturdiness of these chocolate pieces, and the fact that it comes in a fairly easy to share package – the box opens up to reveal a nice little cardboard tray that keeps the pieces upright and prevents them from getting smashed around while being carried. It’s the little touches, you know?

Every day is DARS day I guess?

Each pack has 12 very uniform pieces. I mean super uniform – you could probably line these bad boys up and not be able to tell one apart from the other.

The tray is a nice touch.

Man, these smell amazing. Well, assuming you like the sweet smell that is unmistakably Japanese strawberry flavour. It smells like the happy medium between what a strawberry Hi-Chew smells like, and a strawberry Pocky. I kid you not, these taste exactly like the chocolate part of a strawberry Pocky. Eating this makes me realize how similar strawberry Hi-Chews are to strawberry Pocky. I mean, the distinct strawberry flavour that Japanese chocolate isn’t exactly unique, but even these two big names have a slightly more distinct taste, and this chocolate is like the bastard child of two sworn enemies. If you imagine that confectionery companies are sworn enemies.

The outer white chocolate smell isn’t much to talk about, since it’s mostly about the strawberry flavour. It’s not entirely just sweetness throughout though, as I do taste some tartness from the strawberry centre. I imagine that’s due to some freeze dried strawberry pieces in the centre. The whole thing comes together to remind me of strawberry ice cream, or a strawberry milk shake.

Look at all that strawberry filling.

Texture wise, these are pretty standard chocolate. I’d put this under the “let-it-melt-in-your-mouth” bucket more than the chewable bucket, but to each their own. They’ve got a very nice smooth melt to them, so it would be a waste to not at least try one piece that way.

These are addictive-level tasty, and it’s hard to go wrong with this. I’m not a fan of white chocolate typically, but this is more of a strawberry chocolate than anything, and I love that distinct strawberry flavour. If you’re not into that though, this may not do it for you. Still, keeping these around just for that mouth-watering aroma is not a bad idea. You know, unless you have raccoon or rat problems.

21 calories a piece. 252 if you eat all of them in one sitting.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
