Katja – Party Pigs

So these cute little fellas are a variation on the classic Fred Ferkel. Similar to the Peace and Love flavour these come in interesting combinations of colours. What seems to be different about these though, apart from the obvious texture shift, is that these have relatively clear distinctions between where one flavour starts and the other stops. Each piece has at least four different colours, which implies that potentially each piece is a mash up of four flavours.

Visually, these make me reminisce about an ice cream flavour of an old franchise known as Laura Secord. They have an ice cream flavour called super kid that was a colourful mix of primary colours, and somehow I was reminded of that by these pigs. Smell wise though, they remind me of those fruit punch fruit snacks like Fruit by the Foot and Fruit Roll Up. Are those still a thing these days?

I love everything about this.

To test this out I was very careful to take a bite out of each section with no overlap to try and isolate the flavours. To my surprise it appears they are indeed all different. From the colours I could see, there was yellow, red, purple. blue, green and pink. This creates an interesting dynamic where if you eat the entire piece at once it has a very familiar fruit punch type flavour to it which reminds me of my childhood and fond memories. The flavours are not overly sweet, but fruity enough to make me coming back for more. From what I can tell, the colours seem to breakdown as follows:

Yellow – peach
Green – apple
Red – strawberry
Pink – plum
Purple – grape
Blue – raspberry

I’ll be perfectly and honest and tell you that some of these are hard to tell, like the pink and blue, but based on my experience I imagine it’s those flavours. Some like the green, purple and yellow are a no-brainer, but some of the other ones are hard to tell apart. That being said, the flavours they chose all mix well together, so any combination of four flavours you get just works whether you eat them in parts, or altogether.

Some serious scientific research going on here.

The texture is foamy but not quite airy, so it’s again sort of like a dense marshmallow. The texture isn’t sticky either, so it has a nice clean finish to it which I really appreciate. Realistically the only difference between these and Fred is that these lack the gummy ears, so they’re all a single texture. Not that it’s a bad thing, since that dense marshmallow texture is what makes the pigs delightful to begin with.

This may seem quite gimmicky at first, but I really enjoy this. No doubt kids would enjoy this too.I would get this again in a heartbeat. Arguably more enjoyable the original Percy Pig or Fred Ferkel. Forgive me.

What a fun colourful way to go.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
