La Cocina Foods – Dijon Ranch Tortilla Chips

I find that as much of an open kind as I can keep, ultimately my human instinct of habit kicks in. By this I mean if I see a rack of 10 different snacks, my initial impulse would be to want to try them all, but after that brief high wears off I very quickly come to realization that I’ll only want to try maybe at most eight of the ten. Once even more time passes, I realistically only will buy five of the ten, since I have to pay money and the risk of getting a bad flavour is pretty high. What am I supposed to do with the rest of the bag if I hate it?!

I haven’t heard of Dijon ranch before, so you can imagine why this would pique my interest. The idea of mixing ranch and Dijon mustard doesn’t seem all that crazy to me. After all, Dijon mustard is kind of great and goes well with a lot of things. That being said…there’s a lot of things where the sum is not greater than it’s parts. Ranch is ok, and Dijon is great, but putting them together may or may not work out. I guess I’ll just have to find out the hard way…

The curled edges tell you how thin these are.

The smell is more on the ranch side, so nothing out of the ordinary yet. The flavour itself is quite familiar – the ranch flavour is definitely there, but there’s some extra sweetness and a distinctly noticeable flavour I’ve had before. The best way I can describe it is that it tastes eerily similar to Doritos cool ranch. That got me to thinking, what actually is cool ranch supposed to taste like other than ranch dressing? There’s obviously notes of tomato, onion and dairy from the ranch, but there’s something else which I can only assume is supposed to be the Dijon. Unlike cool ranch though, these are very light in flavour and while it’s a noticeable flavour, it doesn’t make me super thirsty or feel like I’m stuck with a strong after taste.

The texture is similar to the other flavour from La Cocina that I had – they are quite thin and light. While I don’t usually opt for lighter chips, admittedly these are done a tasteful way that makes them very light, very addictive, and I’m now half a bag deep with nothing but feelings of disgust and loathing for myself. In that way, these succeed at being a thin light snack that you won’t even notice until it’s too late.

All in all I enjoyed this way more than I expected or hoped, and I am now left with an empty bag, regret and shame. So overall I’d recommend these to everyone and anyone who likes cool ranch but wants something that doesn’t leave a burning, lingering aftertaste and has a nice light feel to it. Just be warned, these are hella addictive.

I just realized there is protein…

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
