Percy Pig – Piglets

Do you ever get into an argument with someone and things just don’t seem to be going anywhere? Like you’re just not on the same wavelength? What about the times where you eventually discover you were essentially saying the same thing, but in a different way? That’s what I think about when I think of Percy Pig vs. Fred Ferkel.

To be clear, these are essentially Fred Ferkel but made for the UK. Percy Pig specifically is made for the retailer, Marks & Spencer’s, but is essentially identical to the original version. They are equally vegan, and equally tasty. What is clear though, is that at Marks & Spencer’s, Percy Pig is a legend as he has a whole spin off of different flavours and items. Of the more unique ones I could find, was Piglets.

They certainly look like mini pigs.

The interesting thing about Piglets is that instead of just being a smaller variety of the classic pig, each piece is either the foamy bit like the majority of Fred, or the harder gummy texture that is usually confined to his ears. Having them split out definitely makes for a different experience, since you now have the two textures separate.

Sure enough, the flavour is the classic Fred Ferkel one – it’s some sort of combination of apple and grape and berry flavours, that coalesce into this almost fruit punch like flavour. While hard to pin down exactly what the flavour is, it is very reminiscent of fruit snacks, and overall just tasty. It could be the nostalgia talking, but this is one of those flavours that has stayed with me for a long time, and I always get a little excited when I sense it nearby.

These are almost too cute to eat. Almost.

The texture is different between the opaque pink ones, which are foamy and soft, while the translucent darker pink ones are like a firm jelly. It’s a contrast to what I’m used to, where both textures are contained in the same cute pig face. Truthfully I thought I would like one more than the other, but having one after another seems to alleviate that issue and I sort of feel they need each other. If I absolutely had to only pick one, I would go with the foamy one because it’s texture is unique enough that I could see it being it’s own thing. The other one is good, but it does tend to have suffer from the same issue as other vegan gummies in that it like to stick to teeth.

While I would love to get these again, I had to travel across the world to get them, so that option is off the table for me. If somehow you can get these though, do me a favour and try them. Just don’t tell me about it because I might get overly jealous.

While not healthy, you have to admire the attempt to make it seem that way.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
