Pretz – Crispy Chicken and Herbs

The packaging on these look fancier than the Pretz I’m used to. I wonder if they’re trying to market these as a premium version or something. It’s definitely giving me upturned pinky vibes. The flavour is supposed to be chicken and herbs. I can’t really tell if it’s supposed to be fried chicken with herbs, or just chicken and herbs. Although if I think about it a level deeper, how do you distinguish between the two in a seasoning?!

I’ve mentioned before that I have a tendency to lose track of all the snacks I’ve tried, and sometimes I see a flavour that reminds me of something I’ve had before but I can’t quite be sure if it’s the same, mostly because the packaging or marketing is different. Sometimes they only way to be sure is to just try it. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the previous experience with a chicken based flavour was fairly positive.

I have no idea what a Rakutabe pocket is, but it sounds suggestive.

The texture is true to its name – theses are indeed crispy. If you took the standard Pretz stick and compressed it down, this is what you get. They are very crispy, have a clean snap and are overall very light. So light in fact that I found myself eating multiple sticks at a time.

The flavour is best described as familiar – a combination of chicken stock, pepper, and what I believe to be basil. I can’t really speak to the fried part of the flavour, as again, not sure what that’s supposed to taste like other than fry oil, regret and shame. Fried chicken is mostly a texture thing anyways, right?

One of the few instances where thin and crispy is a plus in my books.

It’s crazy to think how long ago I tried a very similar (if not identical) flavour a few years ago, when it was just called Crispy Chicken. It was one of my first experiences with the crispy style of Pretz that I very quickly grew to enjoy, and I may even argue in most situations I prefer over the classic style. Blasphemous, I know. But Obviously I’m not the only one since they keep doing it, so something must be working for them.

In the original review I did say I would do it again, so while I’m not 100% certain it’s the same flavour, it’s similar enough that I would consider it the same thing. And just like last time, I can confirm I would still get this again. I’d say the only thing to keep in mind here is that getting the flavour of fried chicken is very hard, so expect chicken flavour at best.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
