Red Band – Duo Wine Gums Sweet & Sour
Red Band is a big brand over in Europe, but not so much here. In order to get some product here, I have to go to specialty stores. I also wonder if it’s one of those things where it’s so common place that they take it for granted over there, while I treat it like a pleasant surprise when I find a store that stocks it. Either way, they’ve done some good stuff that I enjoy, so here we are, back at it again.
So not only does each piece have two flavours, there’s also sweet and sour. What a crazy world we live in. My love for wine gums and gummies should be common knowledge by now, so it’s going to be hard to not enjoy these.

After extensive testing I’ve come to the conclusion that the bone shaped pieces are sour, while the round ones are sweet. Of the three sour ones, there’s a yellow/red piece which seems to be lemon and strawberry, a red/orange one that’s raspberry and peach, and a purple/red piece that seems to be strawberry and blackcurrant. Of the sour flavours I’d say the raspberry and peach is my favourite, but each one has a distinct enough flavour without overpowering the other and have a nice flavour balance and combination. They are tart enough to make me pucker a little, but nothing to make me want to stop eating them. They are sour throughout, so don’t expect the flavour to turn sweet suddenly. That’s what the sweet pieces are for.

On the sweet side We have a red/green piece that’s strawberry and apple, a orange/yellow piece that’s orange and lemon, and a yellow/red that’s raspberry and what I assume is peach. The sweet flavours are a nice pleasant experience after the sour ones, and still have a strong floral flavour overall without being too sweet or overpowering.
The texture of all of these is fairly simple and straight forward – the are very firm and while still chewy, they do end up a little sticky, as sour wine gums usually do end up. I did find the sweet ones a little softer, for whatever reason. I wonder if it has anything to do with the citric or malic acid they use on the sour side.
These are pretty interesting concept, and a solid execution. I would definitely get these again, if for no other reason than the novelty of getting both sour and sweet and having a fun little game of watching others figure out which is which.
