Toppo – Hokkori White Milk

After trying Toppo for the first time, I came to the realization that I was missing out. So I did what any logical adult would do – I overcompensated and ended up buying a whole bunch of different flavours all at once. I mean, this wasn’t exactly a tough sell either. I mean look at that box art. It’s adorable! I guess for those who aren’t familiar with what’s going on, this particular flavour is supposed to be a sort of collaboration flavour. The adorable little koalas on the box are from Lotte’s popular Koala’s March brand. The Koala’s March cookies are small bite sized cookies that are filled with chocolate in various flavours, and have adorable little koalas printed on them. A childhood favourite of mine to say the least.

What’s more adorable than koalas? Koalas playing in the snow with pretzels!

Apart from being a limited edition flavour, and having “collectible” box art, I don’t know that there’s anything more to this in terms of the actual product. While these one’s don’t seem to be as thick or girthy as the triple berry flavour I tried, these ones came in more pieces. This pouch has 12 sticks, whereas the larger sticks I tried had 7. They end up coming to about the same weight, so the difference comes down to the ratio of pretzel to chocolate. The have a nice buttery smell to them, and resemble a nice buttery cookie than pretzel.

The pouches feel hefty.

These have a nice buttery biscuit flavour to them on the outside. The white milk chocolate is actually not overly sweet, as I was kind of expecting. It tastes more like a creamy chocolate, that really does tastes more like milk than your typical milk chocolate. The flavour isn’t too strong and doesn’t leave too much of an aftertaste, making it for easy snacking.

Not quite as thicc, but still got good girth.

The texture is what you would expect from a pretzel, but with a fairly clean snap that doesn’t leave any mess and is nice and crispy. The outside is like a pretzel in that it’s very smooth, but the cookie itself is very crispy and complements the chocolate well. The chocolate filling isn’t too thick, and it’s got a good ratio with the biscuit to give it a nice crisp texture throughout. While I liked the other style with thicker chocolate filling, this one is good too, as it doesn’t feel as substantial and you could eat more in one sitting. Which is good considering there’s 12 sticks.

These are more about quantity over quality.

Similar to the other flavour, I find these to be somewhat filling. Whereas Pocky tends to leave me wanting more, I found myself feeling pretty satisfied after the pack. As with the other Toppo flavour, I would try this again. While I kind of prefer the thicker ones, I still prefer this style to Pocky. Something about their biscuit and how mess free the chocolate is, makes it a wonderfully convenient, but tasty snack. You can bet good money I’ll be eating a lot more of these in the future…

193 calories each pouch is not bad, considering how substantial they feel.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
