Frankie’s Organic Clouds – Jalapeno

I don’t want to say that most healthy snacks are inferior or subpar in comparison to the unhealthy ones. That’s not true – but it is definitely harder to find healthy snacks that are not only as tasty, but competitive price wise. I can’t say that Frankie’s is particularly competitive if we are talking gram for gram against other puff snacks, but the taste sure made up for it. At least from what I tried a while back.

A big part of why I was keen on trying these is my delightful experience with their white cheddar flavour which quite honestly surprised me with how good it was. I’ve only now gotten around to try their other flavours, because the snacking world is so vast, it’s hard not to get lost sometimes. Lost but not forgotten. And now found. They have more flavours beyond just white cheddar and jalapeno, but for some odd reason I decided pain was the best option forward, and here we are.

They look almost identical to corn puff snacks.

The texture is what I really enjoyed about it before, and things are no different this time. These are different from your standard fried corn puffs in that they draw a very fine balance between a snack you simply let melt in your mouth and one that you have to chew. The puff melts to an extent but leaves behind a bit of mealy texture to chew on. Based on how I describe it, that may not entice you but I can assure you it works well. It could also be because I love rice cakes, because I get a bit of a vibe from that.

Smells more onion like than spice. Looks can be deceiving.

The flavour is what I would best describe as pain – jalapeno is supposed to be spicy but these don’t mess around. They assault the tongue and for someone who is a spice wimp like me, it is pain. That being said, the flavour itself is quite nice with hints of onion and what I imagine to be garlic. Oh and jalapeno – the burn is enough that it stopped me dead in my tracks for a bit as I reel a bit and take a break to let my tongue recover. They did not play around when they added that jalapeno spice – these puffs are kicking and slapping my taste buds around with that heat.

All in all Frankie’s is still a solid corn alternative when it comes to puff snacks, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You know, through the few gaps where I was gasping for air or groping for the nearest, cold liquid to consume and ease the pain. Would recommend.

I’m starting to notice a lot of snacks with the same caloric range.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
