Green & Black’s – Organic Smooth
Green & Black’s is a pretty solid chocolate brand that I’ve had a few run ins with. Admittedly, the first time I heard of the brand I was curious why Black & Brown branched out into chocolate. For those unfamiliar, Black & Brown is a company that specializes in making suits. So you can imagine why I was confused. Even the font set of their logo is similar. Can you really blame me?
Dark chocolate with peppermint oil – how do you hear that and not think of something refreshing? This bar is a 50% bar with some peppermint oil added into the fray. If you don’t like peppermint, there’s no escaping or getting around it in this bar. It’s really in there. You can’t even try eating around it like most chocolate peppermint candies. Personally, I love that, but if you aren’t a fan, best to look away.

I’ve mentioned before that 50% is a pretty good balance between dark and milk, and can be a good gateway to get people into dark chocolate. I am a huge fan of all things chocolate and mint, and this is no exception. Let’s talk about the flavour first. It’s a good balance between milk and dark, and it’s not quite bitter, but not overly sweet either. Add on to that the refreshing flavour of the peppermint and you have something that can appeal to anyone who enjoys mint and chocolate together.

The texture is pretty simple, but not in a bad way. Similar to any bar of chocolate you would get at this %, it’s not too sweet and has a creamy, melty texture and not being too brittle as higher and darker bars are. These are soft enough you can either let it sit on your tongue and melt slowly, or chew this. It’s versatile and it works on many levels, another reason I think this is a good way to get people into darker bars. I will give it to them, these are certainly smooth and it reflects, both int he mouth feel and the overall taste experience.

Sometimes I want a more dedicated chocolate mint experience – this delivers on that in spades. Unlike many other bars the mint is mixed in with the chocolate, so it’s got a perfectly balanced approach between the rich chocolate and the refreshing mint. I would get this again, and I would recommend this to any fans of the classic chocolate mint combo.
