Hi-Chew – Fanta Yogurt Rush

This is a short stick. A stubber. This seems to only have about 7 pieces. I guess it would be fine if the price was commensurate to compensate for the fewer pieces, but alas it is not. Shrinkflation strikes again, I guess. But as some may have you believe, size isn’t everything. We will see if that’s the case.

This flavour is the like the love child of about three different separate flavours – it’s the combination of the yogurt flavour, the fizzy soda style of flavour, and oh by the way it’s supposed to be grape soda flavoured. I guess You could make the claim that it’s just two as it’s the combination of yogurt and grape Fanta, but I like my sensationalized marketing better. I’ll also be interested to see if this will be one of those flavours where the sum is greater than it’s parts or not.

The smell is a combination of a yogurt smell along with a sweet grape, but I’d be lying if I said I could smell the soda part. Flavour is where it becomes apparent there’s soda in there, as it’s front and center and overpowers most of the other flavours. I can taste a bit of the yogurt, but it’s largely overpowered by the soda. When I say soda, I’m referring more to ramune. The combination of the ramune and the yogurt creates this weird aftertaste, not unlike what you would get if you mixed milk and soda water. It’s gross sounding, and while not as gross to consume, it is noticeable enough it may turn off people.

You might think this is a normal piece. You would be wrong.

The texture is where you would figure it’s soda, as it has little crunchy candy bits that are like pop rocks, as well as little candy soda pellets. You know those compressed sugar pieces that have a bit of a fizzy taste as they dissolve in your mouth? Those candies. I kind of prefer to not have them in my Hi-Chew, as they are a bit hard and contrast too much with the rest of the piece. Apart from that it’s you’re typical Hi-Chew with some crunchy candy bits in it. Not bad but not my preferred delivery of Hi-Chew.

I like the concept and the theory behind this. The idea is sound but execution is not to my liking, largely due to personal preference. It seems like Hi-Chew has run out of mash ups of two flavours, so now they are going into three flavour combos. At a certain point things get a little too confused, but thankfully this one works well. It’s just the pellets I am not crazy about. And the size.

The magic number 19.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
