Leclerc – Summertime Cookies – Berry Blast
In what is sadly the last of the summertime cookies from Leclerc, I did indeed save what I assumed would be the best for last. Berry Blast is exactly the sort of name that would make me think of some sort of mixed berry concoction that not only looks visually appealing, but also tastes rooty tooty fresh and fruity.
The cookie is supposed to be cherry flavoured, the creme lemon flavoured, and the jelly blue raspberry. As far as the cookie goes, I don’t really taste the cherry, and mostly just taste a mostly lemon, slightly berry flavour, but I would be hard pressed to identify it as cherry. The creme is pretty distinctly lemon, and similar to the other flavours the overall cookie has more of a lemon and citrus lean to it, which gives it a brightness to it. The blue raspberry jelly at the center of it all is unmistakable in it’s sweet, floral berry flavour. Something about the lemon and the raspberry work really well together. I guess that’s why they’ve essentially used the combo twice in their three flavours. This is really similar to the other flavour of raspberry lemonade, but this one overall has a more berry forward flavour. In essence though its the same thing, but with different colours. I bet they weren’t expecting someone to test it and collect them all.
The texture is identical to the other cookies – which is to say the cookie itself is quite crumbly and the cream inside is what binds everything together. While I wouldn’t say the cookie is dry, it is very messy to eat and the cream helps to smooth things out. The cookie sort of just melts away in the mouth, so the cream helps give some semblance of stability as it seems to hold up better against dissolving on the tongue. The jelly is as jellies go, sticky, sweet and somehow addictive. Like a train wreck of a cookie you can’t stop biting into. But in a good way, not a tragic way.
So unsurprisingly, this is another summertime flavour that I really enjoyed, even if we ignore the huge nostalgia factor. It’s just a winning combo of cream, jelly and cookie. It’s hard to go wrong, and my only regret is I didn’t stock up on more of these because I really don’t think they will be coming back again. Or maybe it will. Only time will tell.
