Rogers’ Chocolate – Icewine Truffles

Icewine is one of those things where it’s so sweet that even people who don’t enjoy alcohol or find even a slight hint of alcohol to be overpowering (like this guy), will enjoy what is being offered. It’s what makes it such a great flavour pairing with a nice rich chocolate. Nothing short of indulgent.

The ratio is a little different from what I was expecting based on the packaging. I mean sure, we sort of expect it to be different, but I feel like the truffle center is only about half of what the picture on the packaging shows. Nevertheless, we press on. Thankfully the chocolate smells and looks tasty, so all is forgiven.

These are a bit larger than I was expecting.

The dark chocolate use here is about 55%, so ideal balance for a darker chocolate which is rich in cocoa flavour but not too bitter or chalky. The truffle center is indeed very smooth and cream in quality and has a sweet finish that has that distinct icewine flavour. Icewine is usually a very tasty but sweet wine and generally more of a dessert wine at that. Once you’ve tried it you can understand why it’s in so many Canadian desserts. It definitely makes me feel a bit bougie when having it. I think my pinky uncontrollably popped out on it’s own.

The patterning on top is very visually pleasing.

The chocolate is a fairly solid dark chocolate, and the shell to truffle center ratio is a bit high so it almost feels like biting into a very thick chocolate shell. Being a darker variety it’s a bit more brittle and not as melty, so it reminds me a bit of those chocolates filled with liquor. The truffle center is very soft, and reminds me a bit of the creams, but with different ratios and not much chew to it.

I was expecting a bit more truffle in that top area…

I’ll be honest, the price can be a bit daunting to get past for these. Having said that, as far as higher end chocolate goes, this is a great gateway into the more niche and specific products that may not appeal to everyone. These still have a flavour profile that I feel will still appeal to most people, and can be a great dip of the toes into the rabbit hole of chocolate. These are a great low commitment way to test things out, or a small, thoughtful gift if you’re trying to convert someone. I will certainly be coming back to these at some point.

3 pieces are equivalent to three oreos.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
