Rogers’ Chocolate – Raspberry Cream
When Rogers’ was introduced to me, I was told that their Victoria creams were something of a must try, so here I am. I decided on raspberry cream because I felt like trying something fruity, and raspberry is usually a nice pairing with a quality chocolate. I was a bit hesitant because not only are these big, these are pricey. It essentially comes out to roughly $6 CAD each.
As I mentioned, these are quite large. Whether you believe it’s worth the price tag will come down to whether you enjoy it. These are definitely big enough to be shared or split in half, though not big enough I would want to eat it over multiple sittings. One and done is definitely the approach here.
The outer layer has a darker chocolate to it, and has a nice thickness to it where it has a snap when you bite into it. The chocolate has a nice, relatively dark and strong cocoa flavour to it which pairs nicely with the raspberry cream. The raspberry cream brings back memories of childhood, where I had similar raspberry cream filled treats, and this one is very similar to that flavour profile. It’s got a sweet raspberry flavour that has a nice floral quality to it, and while sweet it’s balanced by the dark chocolate shell. The combination actually reminds me of the cream chocolates that I grew up with from other brands, but these are obviously bigger and have a larger ratio of cream to chocolate.
The cream is smooth, and not too firm and not too soft that it ends up a sticky mess. It’s just right. The soft consistency of the cream contrasts well with the nice brittle snap of the outer chocolate shell. Because the size of these is quite large, the ratio of chocolate to cream tends to favour more of the cream, so you have to be careful if you don’t want a mouthful of just cream. You have to be strategic to ensure a balance of chocolate to cream.
Overall I enjoyed the experience and find the flavour and texture enjoyable enough that I would do it again. These are big, so it’s a little harder to find chances I want to consume an entire thing on my own, but when I do this would hit the spot perfectly. The raspberry cream isn’t even one of their classic or famous ones, so it seems like there’s even more upside with the other flavours. I will be on the lookout.
