Rogers’ Chocolate – Rum Cream
Continuing on my spree of trying Rogers’ products, I enter into another offering on their cream catalogue. Surely they must be good if so much of their brand and their product catalogue is tied to them. I’ll be honest here and say I’m not a drinker, like, at all. But if I were to, rum would generally be my choice of liquor. At least as far as the hard stuff goes. I generally prefer my rum in my desserts and sweets though, as it has a nice flavour when it’s been cooked. Also a good rum raisin ice cream is unbeatable. Possibly one of the best ways to consume rum, only behind a nice, well made rum ball pastry.
As you can imagine, this smells very rummy. it has the hallmark flavours of the rum where it’s mostly sweet but has a slight boozy quality to it. Mostly though, it’s more like a fondant in the taste and is on the sweeter side, as you would expect from these creams. That’s where the darker chocolate comes in, and helps to balance things out flavour wise. The flavour of the cream reminds me a lot of a very old Lifesaver hard candy flavour known as hot butter rum. I sometimes wonder if that flavour is still around, but if it wasn’t I wouldn’t be surprised. It definitely feels more like one of those old people flavours that most younger people would not partake in. Like your grandma’s old butterscotch candies. These do have more of an actual rum flavour though, so I suspect rum enjoyers in general will appreciate it as well.

The texture is not too runny, and is more of slightly smoother fondant. It’s sort of reminds me of a creamier version of a marshmallow filling. It’s not as smooth or sticky as the raspberry cream I tried previously, but it does have a soft chew to it. It’s got a nice balance to it and as I consume it, I wonder if it would be better if I stick it in the fridge to get the cream a little harder and potentially chewy.

So no shocker here, I like rum based confections and this is no exception. The chocolate certainly helps to balance out the sweetness of the cream, and overall pairs well with chocolate coating. I don’t really have any notes here and only thing I will say is these are not cheap, so keep that in mind. It’s definitely a quality over quantity play here, but I feel like the value is there so I have no issue recommending this to people.
