Rogers’ Chocolate – White Chocolate Strawberry Shortbread

As I’ve said before, I am at a point in my life where I try to go further up the value chain and focus more on quality rather than quantity. That usually comes with the effect on things costing more for what I get, and getting less. I’m usually ok with that, but ultimately I do still look for overall value, where the price and quality is at a perceived maximum. Roger’s is not what I consider the high end of chocolate, and is more towards the premium but value oriented space. It’s good quality product that’s pricey, but not overly so.

Especially in this day and age where actual chocolate has become a premium, I appreciate something where you pay more for the product rather than fancy packaging or bloated marketing budgets. Thankfully Rogers’ also keeps it fresh by having some interesting products every once in a while, like what I managed to get my hands on today.

These smell tart and fruity.

These are little pieces of shortbread covered in strawberry flavoured white chocolate. The shortbread has a slight sweetness to it, but most of the flavour seems to be coming from the chocolate, as it should. The chocolate itself has a very vibrant strawberry flavour, and reminds me of a strawberry milkshake or ice cream. Something to note is that the strawberry flavour tastes very natural, and has a few bits of what I imagine are freeze dried strawberries. It adds a little bit of an extra tartness to it and tastes closer to a typical strawberry than some of the more one note strawberry chocolates, which I appreciate.

These are a bit bigger than I was expecting.

The texture is slightly softer than what I was expecting, but in a good way. The center is a shortbread cookie, but not a super dense one and is somewhat reminiscent of a biscuit, but it’s noticeably more buttery and smooth, for lack of a better term. The chocolate itself is fairly soft despite the good temper job they did on the outside, and gives way easily the the shortbread center, which is also pretty satisfying to bite into.

These have a nice ratio of shortbread to chocolate.

The main disadvantage to these is price – make no mistake you got very solid quality for what you pay, but the price of admission is high, and that can turn a lot of people away. If however, you don’t mind that, I would definitely recommend these to anyone who likes strawberry flavoured chocolate or is just looking to try something new and exciting. At the very least, it’s worth looking into to see what price you can get these at before deciding if you want to pull the trigger.

Not the worst calorie intake I’ve seen from similar snacks.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
