Seattle Chocolate – Creme Brulee Crackle Truffle Bar

Sometimes you see a product on sale and think, neat I’ve never tried this, why the hell not? And then you notice the entire line is on sale, and you debate whether you should try them all or not. Well that happens to me quite often, and it’s how I ended up with all these Seattle chocolate flavours. This one is just another one of many that I have recently ended up buying, and so far I would say the experience is an overall net positive. Keeping in mind though that I paid roughly 60% of the retail price so that also impacts the level of utility and enjoyment.

Creme brulee is one of those things where I enjoy the novelty of the flavour more than the actual product. I say that but I am now starting to wonder if it’s more an issue of I am just really picked with desserts and just don’t end up picking it when other options seem more enjoyable for me.

I may have left this out in the cold too long.

This dark chocolate and white chocolate bar tastes very, very similar to the Holy Cannoli bar I had not long ago. It has a dark outer shell that sandwiches the middle, white chocolate layer. The creme brulee bits add a nice sweet burnt sugar flavour and I can also taste a hint of salt that helps to bring out the flavour. I can also taste what is supposed to be an eggy or custardy quality to further drill in the creme brulee theming. It’s definitely an intriguing idea, though truthfully I have never been big on the combination of chocolate and egg based desserts like custard or flan.

I always appreciate a nice clean temper job.

The texture here is pretty straightforward – the chocolate parts are fairly soft and melt quickly in the mouth to give way to the pieces of hardened sugar that are similar to what you find on the top layer of a creme brulee. They have a nice crunch to them, and they aren’t too much of a contrast to the smooth chocolate that it clashes.

A slightly tan tinge to that middle layer.

I will say that I enjoy the experience of having little bits of that burnt sugar layer within the bar as it gives it a nice contrast to the chocolate. Having said that, the execution has been done better by other brands, and I find that for the price it’s hard to justify going for this one over others I’ve tried. This bar would fall under the “if it’s on sale, give it a try” bucket.

It’s always fascinating seeing random protein in unhealthy snacks.

zbearviking

From the frigid, majestic North (Canada), hails a creature like no other. Is it a bear that took up viking-ing? Or a viking that turned into a bear? Perhaps it is beyond human comprehension what the creature truly is, much like Bigfoot or Nessie. What we do know, is that much like everything else in the universe, it is made of star stuff.
